Hold Still-Nina LaCour.

"An arresting story about starting over after a friend’s suicide.

dear caitlin, there are so many things that i want so badly to tell you but i just can’t.

Devastating, hopeful, hopeless, playful . . . in words and illustrations, Ingrid left behind a painful farewell in her journal for Caitlin. Now Caitlin is left alone, by loss and by choice, struggling to find renewed hope in the wake of her best friend’s suicide. With the help of family and newfound friends, Caitlin will encounter first love, broaden her horizons, and start to realize that true friendship didn’t die with Ingrid. And the journal which once seemed only to chronicle Ingrid’s descent into depression, becomes the tool by which Caitlin once again reaches out to all those who loved Ingrid—and Caitlin herself."-GoodReads.

Hold Still was a hard book to read. So so much emotion in it and all of it is just so raw and real. But the journey that takes place is incredible.
My heart hurt for Caitlin. The parts when she is remembering things about Ingrid that were clear signs of her depression and how she kept thinking she could have and should have done something were the hardest.
The only thing I didn't like was Caitlin's parents. A couple times it just felt like they (especially her mom) thought that Caitlin should be over it. Like there is a deadline for the mourning process and Caitlin was way past it. They didn't act like that all the time, just sometimes.
I especially enjoyed all the photography talk in the book. Caitlin loves photography. I love photography. And the way Caitlin pours herself into her work, taking the pictures, developing them. It's beautiful.

I would highly recommend this book. But it is not light, nor is it fluffy. So you are forewarned that it might evoke emotions you didn't know you had. Or it just might make you more emotional than you already are.

4.5/5 for Hold Still.
