30 Day Book Challenge-Day 18

So I've been MIA for a little while. Mostly I was just taking a break from blogging because after almost 3 years it had started to feel like a chore and that is not how I wanted to look at it all. Now I finally feel ready to start posting again. And what better way to start the habit of posting regularly again than doing a 30 day challenge. So for 30 days in August I'll be posting daily for the challenge, and on August 31st I'll post a surprise!
Now, just to put this out there right now, I reserve the right to cheat on this challenge. Cheat as in if it asks for one favorite book...I might put two...or 5.
Let the challenge begin!

A BOOK THAT DISAPPOINTED YOU

Tris & Izzie

This has to be one of my favorite book covers ever. It is just beautiful and was perfect for a retelling of Tristan and Isolde.
But the story was childish and felt like it still needed editing. I felt so let down when I finished it.
And that kids is why you don't judge a book by its cover.

FAVORITE QUOTE FROM YOUR FAVORITE BOOK

“You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world...but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices.”

“You realize that trying to keep your distance from me will not lessen my affection for you. All efforts to save me from you will fail.”

“Because you are beautiful. I enjoy looking at beautiful people, and I decided a while ago not to deny myself the simpler pleasures of existence”

“As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”

We'll Always Have Summer (Summer, #3)

“He didn’t give me flowers or candy. He gave me the moon and the stars. Infinity."

I got a little behind this week due to the fact that I was participating in the 48 Hour Film Festival here in my town so that took up my entire weekend.

FAVORITE MALE CHARACTER
FAVORITE FEMALE CHARACTER
Since I'm playing catch up with my posts I decided to combine days 15 & 16. I have a ton of favorite characters so I have picked a few books that have both a favorite male and female character.

 Rose Hathaway and Dimitri Belikov
Rose is such a strong character that can get things done by herself.
It's only when she meets the equally as strong Dimitri that she lets herself rely on someone.
Dimitri is, and always will be, one of my favorite male characters. He's strong and courageous and not a complete idiot like a lot of tough guys are portrayed.

Tris and Four
Tris didn't make a popular decision but it changed her life in an incredible way.
And Four is just Four. Strong, commanding presence, a fighter, and pushes Tris past what she thinks she is capable of.

Belly and Conrad
The girl who is trying to figure out who she wants to be and the guy that is much more than he seems.
I love these two, both together and apart.

Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters
Read the book and you'll understand just what I mean.
They are wonderful.
Keep tissues close by though.

BOOK TURNED MOVIE & COMPLETELY DESECRATED

A Wrinkle in Time
Loved the book soo much. I will never understand what happened with the movie. It was just terrible. Mostly because it was a made for TV movie...but still. It should have never seen the light of day.
Maybe somebody someday will redo it and make one that is wayyy better.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1)
Okay...so I actually really liked the movie adaption. But there were a couple of things...big things...that happened in the end of the book that didn't happen in the movie and now I feel like the whole next two movies are going to be thrown off because of it. Like things that made Catching Fire that much more intense and difficult for certain characters...
WHY WERE THESE THINGS CHANGED?!?
So this movie is really a love/hate relationship.

YOUR FAVORITE WRITER(S)

His stories will always be some of my favorites. Master storyteller and world builder.

Her books are the first urban fantasy stories I read. And she's the reason I fell in love with urban fantasy. I have yet to find stories like hers.

He likes to rip peoples hearts out and crush their souls, all while having an underlying message of hope. Pretty clever, this one.

She wrote the most amazing perfect-for-summer series ever. And is also one of the reasons why I decided to start giving more contemps a try.

Holy crap I love her fae stories.

The woman that brought us Harry Potter. What's not to love?

For Narnia.

Top 10 Favorite Books With X Setting!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovelies over at The Broke and The Bookish.

This week's topic is top ten books that take place in a certain setting (i.e. futuristic, set in school, etc)
I decided to pick urban fantasy/ supernatural/ paranormal.
(I know this is more the type of book, but they are all pretty similar and I haven't read enough books in the same setting to make a whole list. So I took the liberty to tweak it and make it my own)

Urban Fantasy/ Supernatural/ Paranormal

The Lord of the Rings (The Lord of the Rings, #1-3) The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) Darkfever (Fever, #1) Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) My Blood Approves (My Blood Approves, #1)

A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #1)

So there's a small portion of fantasy and paranormal books that I love.
Any on my list that you love? What setting did you choose?
Leave a link to your list in the comments and I'll check it out!

A BOOK THAT YOU LOVE BUT HATE AT THE SAME TIME

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)

I do like this series. I've only read the first 3 but I have enjoyed them. To a point though I think the series is getting way too drug out. This series, a series that takes place long before this one, and then another one that is supposed to take place after this one if I am remembering correctly. And I hate all of the drama surrounding the series of what the author has supposedly done with recycling her own stories and what have you.
So I love it, and hate it.

Twilight (Twilight, #1)

The writing isn't that great, the story isn't very original, the girl is a baby, and the guy is a creeper...that sparkles. Yet I still do love this series.
I was going through some tough stuff in my life when I first heard about this book so it helped take me out of my reality and let me go somewhere else for a little while.
It was the series that really got me back into reading and it was the series that made me discover YA.
So it's not all bad...but still pretty bad.
