30 Day Book Challenge-Day 14

So I've been MIA for a little while. Mostly I was just taking a break from blogging because after almost 3 years it had started to feel like a chore and that is not how I wanted to look at it all. Now I finally feel ready to start posting again. And what better way to start the habit of posting regularly again than doing a 30 day challenge. So for 30 days in August I'll be posting daily for the challenge, and on August 31st I'll post a surprise!
Now, just to put this out there right now, I reserve the right to cheat on this challenge. Cheat as in if it asks for one favorite book...I might put two...or 5.
Let the challenge begin!

BOOK TURNED MOVIE & COMPLETELY DESECRATED

A Wrinkle in Time
Loved the book soo much. I will never understand what happened with the movie. It was just terrible. Mostly because it was a made for TV movie...but still. It should have never seen the light of day.
Maybe somebody someday will redo it and make one that is wayyy better.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1)
Okay...so I actually really liked the movie adaption. But there were a couple of things...big things...that happened in the end of the book that didn't happen in the movie and now I feel like the whole next two movies are going to be thrown off because of it. Like things that made Catching Fire that much more intense and difficult for certain characters...
WHY WERE THESE THINGS CHANGED?!?
So this movie is really a love/hate relationship.

YOUR FAVORITE WRITER(S)

His stories will always be some of my favorites. Master storyteller and world builder.

Her books are the first urban fantasy stories I read. And she's the reason I fell in love with urban fantasy. I have yet to find stories like hers.

He likes to rip peoples hearts out and crush their souls, all while having an underlying message of hope. Pretty clever, this one.

She wrote the most amazing perfect-for-summer series ever. And is also one of the reasons why I decided to start giving more contemps a try.

Holy crap I love her fae stories.

The woman that brought us Harry Potter. What's not to love?

For Narnia.

Top 10 Favorite Books With X Setting!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovelies over at The Broke and The Bookish.

This week's topic is top ten books that take place in a certain setting (i.e. futuristic, set in school, etc)
I decided to pick urban fantasy/ supernatural/ paranormal.
(I know this is more the type of book, but they are all pretty similar and I haven't read enough books in the same setting to make a whole list. So I took the liberty to tweak it and make it my own)

Urban Fantasy/ Supernatural/ Paranormal

The Lord of the Rings (The Lord of the Rings, #1-3) The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) Darkfever (Fever, #1) Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) My Blood Approves (My Blood Approves, #1)

A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #1)

So there's a small portion of fantasy and paranormal books that I love.
Any on my list that you love? What setting did you choose?
Leave a link to your list in the comments and I'll check it out!

A BOOK THAT YOU LOVE BUT HATE AT THE SAME TIME

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)

I do like this series. I've only read the first 3 but I have enjoyed them. To a point though I think the series is getting way too drug out. This series, a series that takes place long before this one, and then another one that is supposed to take place after this one if I am remembering correctly. And I hate all of the drama surrounding the series of what the author has supposedly done with recycling her own stories and what have you.
So I love it, and hate it.

Twilight (Twilight, #1)

The writing isn't that great, the story isn't very original, the girl is a baby, and the guy is a creeper...that sparkles. Yet I still do love this series.
I was going through some tough stuff in my life when I first heard about this book so it helped take me out of my reality and let me go somewhere else for a little while.
It was the series that really got me back into reading and it was the series that made me discover YA.
So it's not all bad...but still pretty bad.

A BOOK THAT YOU DISLIKED HATED

Moby Dick: or The White Whale (Oxford Illustrated Classics)

You guys, I have trouble saying I hate anything...because really there are few things in the world that I actually hate. Like, it's an extremely short list.
Even now I can only think of two things on that list: Peas and Moby Dick.
I had to read this book for a highschool english class and I was so bored to tears with it.
My teacher was also one of those teachers that looked into every little thing that Melville wrote as having some kind of deeper meaning.
And one of the girls in my class (there were only 10 of us. Small homeschool class) just went on and one and on about it being an incredibly cruel book and she was not going to read anymore because it just promoted animal cruelty towards whales and that she wanted to throw up every time she read it.
All in all it was a bad experience. Maybe one day I will try again. Maybe not.
Just right now all I know is that I hate this book and the class memories attached to reading it.

What about you? Any books that you just hated?

A BOOK THAT REMINDS YOU OF HOME

I've had a few different homes. So each of these books reminds me of those places for their own special reasons.

My Blood Approves (My Blood Approves, #1)

When I first moved away from home I didn't know anyone and it was right at the beginning of winter so there wasn't a lot to do in the town I moved to once it started to get super cold and snow.
So I turned to the bookstore and reading. I was given a Kindle that Christmas and this was the first book that I bought on it. So My Blood Approves reminds me of Tennessee, cold days, and cuddling up on the couch with hot coffee.

Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)
ACROSS THE UNIVERSE BY BETH REVIS

After Tennessee I ended up moving to Colorado. Again, right at the beginning of winter. I actually knew some people there so I had some stuff to do and people to show me around. But it snowed even more in Colorado than Tennessee so for a while it was difficult to get out.
Enter Across the Universe by Beth Revis. It was the first ARC that I ever got and I think I scared the maillady when she dropped it off.
This one reminds me of that home though because it was one I was sooo thrilled to get and I got to curl up with it while the snow fell. Lovely.

To Kill a Mockingbird

Growing up, my mom used to read to my brother and me allll the time (more so since we were homeschooled). It's one of those things that helped spark my love for reading. I remember laying on the living room floor, coloring, and listening to my mom. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the last books that my mom read to me and I LOVED it soo much. It will forever be one of my favorites.

A BOOK YOU THOUGHT YOU WOULDN'T LIKE, BUT ENDED UP LOVING

Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1)

I used to always have trouble getting into contemps. I never connected with any of the main characters or the story line, so I stayed away from them. When I started blogging I had a few fellow bloggers suggest some contemps that I might would like and gave them a try...most of them were not for me.
I almost didn't give Anna a try. The cover was too cheesy girly, the story only sounded alright...so I wasn't sold.
Then I started seeing the reviews rolls in. Everyone was flipping for Anna and the French Kiss. So I gave it a go and fell in love. Finally a contemp that I actually liked!
Since then I have given a shot to and actually ended up liking many more contemps! Yay!
