Divergent Wins!

Divergent was one of my favorite books of this year. And I was so excited to see that it won Best Young Adult Fantasy and Science Fiction AND Favorite Book of 2011 on the GoodReads Choice Awards!! *throws confetti*

Holiday #Readathon Wrap-up Post.

Another readathon, come and gone. The Holiday #Readathon has become one of my favorites to participate in and I can't wait until next year to do it again.
Even though I was gone most of Friday and watched way too many Christmas movies with my mom on Satuday, I still did pretty good.
I finished Oblivion Road (I was only about 3 chapters in when I started) and I just have the tiniest smidge of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone left. Since this is my first go at the Harry Potter series I didn't want to rush through it, so I took this weekend to just enjoy it.

As I said in my starting post, I was donating $3 for every book I finished, with a $10 minimum. Since I basically finished two books I will be donating $10 to Books For Kids which was started by Britney and Farrah, the two lovely ladies behind I Eat Words.

Let the Holiday #Readathon begin!

Yay! It's finally December so it finally feels okay to start celebrating the Christmas season! 

And what better way to start a celebration than with a readathon!

I started my reading at midnight...since I'm up anyway.

Since it is actually midnight right now I am really off reading somewhere...sooo if I haven't already finished it I will be finishing up Oblivion Road by Alex McAulay.

Then jumping into Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling, which I am freakin' excited about! I've been wanting to read the whole series for a long time.

And I have a couple of Christmas books I want to read so I might pick A Log Cabin Christmas by Wanda E. Brunstetter & 8 other authors.

I'm not setting a goal for how many books I want to have done because I never actually finish them all...and I'm going to be really busy most of Friday.

Peculiar, indeed. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was an original and refreshing read. It really stood out to me in a sea of sameness. It wasn't your typical YA book about love triangles and wanting to be with the random hot guy that has supernatural powers.
The cover drew me in with its creepy photograph and strange name. Even the font caught my eye.
Just in case you couldn't tell, that girl on the cover is levitating. Yeah, levitating.


This book is filled with interesting...erhmm, I mean peculiar, children that can do all sorts of things. Jacob's grandfather has told him stories about these children for as long as he could remember, but he never thought them to be true. They couldn't be, could they?
But when a series of events leads Jacob to the mysterious island where all these stories originated, adventures ensue. As do some pretty scary things too.


The first bit of the book freaked me out a bit. I started reading it at night, like late night, and found that was not a good idea. Being that tired and seeing those pictures made for some pretty creepy dreams. But if you are not a fan of scary reads, have no fear (no pun intended...okay, yes it was) the scare factor calms down and settles into a really great adventure story.
I really enjoyed this book. From the pictures to all of the children it was a really great read. A little slow at times, but in the end totally worth it.
If you enjoy adventure stories with some supernatural twists, you most definitely need to pick up a copy of this book.


I did get an email from Quirk not to long ago and they sent me some sad news. The untitled sequel to Miss Peregrine's does not come out until Spring of 2013! Gah! How could they do that to me? I really want to know where the story goes...they are lucky I have plenty of other books to read between now and then.

The End of NaNo.

Sadly, I did not win NaNoWriMo. As much as I don't want to admit (but for you guys I will) the first two weeks I slacked...a lot. And I had a bunch of excuses because I didn't think the idea I had was really going to turn into anything.
Boy was I wrong. The last two weeks I have been writing like crazy. Just not crazy enough to catch up.
That's okay though. What I did end up writing is a lot more than I have written in a while, so NaNo definitely helped. And I am determined to finish the story I am working on.

If not *throws confetti* congratulations for even trying! That's a bigger step than a lot of people would take.
Don't give up on that story just yet either. Just because NaNo is over doesn't mean you have to stop :)

Happy Thanksgiving.

Today is a day like no other. It's a day my family gets together to celebrate our blessings. 

At our Thanksgiving dinner, before we dive into the newspaper to check out all the Black Friday ads, we take a few minutes and remember all the things we've been blessed with. And I love that my family does that. Because there is really soo much.

Then we pray and thank God for everything. 

Then we eat, drink coffee, and are merry.
But just those few minutes of reflection helps us truly see how blessed we are. And it helps us to not get caught up in the Christmas craze that will come knocking tomorrow morning. 

It is very humbling.

So, before I went off with my family, I just wanted to let you know that today I am thankful for all of you.

Yes, you. I love my blog and it's because of the wonderful people that I have met on here and talk to and that comment on my posts that make me want to keep doing this.

So thank you everyone for being my follower and for being my friend.

Holiday #Readathon

I loved doing this readathon last year and can't wait to take part in it again this year! Especially since it will be right after NaNoWriMo ends. I will need some R&R time (relax&reading time) by then.

I'm not sure what books I will be reading but I will probably jump into the Harry Potter series and I have some Christmas books that I want to get read too. I just have to decide which ones.

There will be mini-challenges and giveaways and there are other bloggers and authors signed up to participate too!
We will be using the twitter hashtag #readathon the whole weekend, so feel free to let everyone know what you are reading, how you are doing, etc.
On Sunday there will be a twitter party using the same hashtag at 9pm EST. We'll talk about books, the holidays and whatever else comes up. And there will be giveaways during the party too!

Liza has a challenge posted on the main page. You don't have to do it to participate in the #readathon, but it's worth it. You pledge an amount for every page or every book you read, then donate it to a charity of your choice for Christmas. It is strictly the honor system so only participate in the challenge if you really are going to donate.
